How shipping labels get generated

Labels are functional printing with a brand layer on top. The address block and the order number have to be right and the barcode has to scan; everything else is presentation. Because they are printed at a physical size on label stock, this is a category where the export settings matter as much as the design — the wrong DPI produces a barcode that reads on screen and fails at the scanner. Fulfilment operations render these per order through the API as part of the packing flow. Smaller shops batch a day's orders at once. Thank-you labels are the softer end of the category, carrying a message rather than routing data.

In practice: API per order inside the packing flow, exported print-ready at the label stock size.

Fields you'd usually bind

{{recipient_address}}
Multi-line address block, wrapped rather than fixed.
{{order_number}}
Also bound to the barcode in most setups.
{{tracking_code}}
Bound to a CODE128 barcode for scanning.
{{service_level}}
Express, priority or standard — often drives the colour band.

Any text, image, QR code or barcode on the canvas can become a variable — these are just the ones this category tends to use.
